CBR is one of the major players in the German womenswear apparel market with two long-established brands, Street One and Cecil, serving more than 8,500 points of sale across Europe.
CBR focuses on wholesale with an omnichannel offering, including e-commerce and its own retail and outlet stores. The company produces 12 collections per year and delivers more than 180,000 items daily. As “fashion follower” CBR delivers the latest fashion trends within around only 90 days for an entire collection, starting from the product idea to its appearance in the showroom.
CBR was founded in 1980 and launched the Street One brand in 1983 and Cecil in 1989. The following year the brands became available in Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In 2007, EQT came in as owner and in 2011, CBR started its own e-commerce operations as well as its own retail operations in 2013.
Market trends and drivers
The European fashion business is mainly driven by the general economic development and more specifically the development of private consumption. The European apparel market has recovered since the financial crisis and is expected to moderately grow reflecting the improved economic outlook across Europe.
CBR was a market leader with a uniquely differentiated business model and a strong customer orientation at the time of the investment of EQT. The value creation plan focused on primarily organic sales growth through continued expansion of points of sales in existing core markets as well as new markets. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to expand the brand portfolio to cover additional customer groups.
