About the industry

“Alternatives” is an asset class that allows investors to access a broad array of investment strategies and return profiles

Over the past few decades, demand for alternative investments has grown significantly and today forms an integral part of the global economy. Alternative investments have becoming an increasingly important investment strategy for sophisticated institutional and high net worth investors.

The main role of an alternative investments manager is to raise capital from investors for investments that generate compelling risk adjusted returns relative to public markets. Alternative investments include everything from private equity (buyouts, growth equity, venture capital), real assets (infrastructure, natural resources, real estate), credit (direct lending, mezzanine, special situations) and hedge funds (public equity or debt investment strategies).

Investments in these companies and assets – whether as a financial supporter or responsible owner – have resulted in the development of global champions that are able to compete successfully in the international arena. Alternative investing has reshaped many industries and consolidated fragmented markets, which in turn has allowed investors to more efficiently allocate capital at scale.

EQT is an alternative investments firm with funds investing in private equity, real assets and credit.
